John
It appears that they are created for every marriage although I have
found a few that were evidently missed when the LDS filmed them.
No index at all. They are usually preceeded by a cover page. Some of
the cover pages will tell you the year of the marriage and/or have a
number on it that corresponds to the marriage document in the marriage
films BUT NOT ALL DO. Nor are they always in number order. They may be
totally out of order
I872 was on that film. I ordered it to obtain a marriage document for
someone in my tree a while back. I do not presently have the film in St
Louis nor do I have digital images of it yet.
Yes, there are birth and death allegati records as well - again - some
births and deaths DID NOT have allegati records for them and I have
found a few for documents that were missing from the original birth
documents that have helped fill in the gaps. Some of them have already
been transcribed into the database for the earlier years. I have found
some documents.
The allegati records were the proof that the couple were eligible to be
married. They contained the births documents of the couple (or
baptismal if the person was born before the civil records started in
1820), deaths of previous spouses, deaths of parents and of the
grandfathers, marriage banns, marriage contracts, residency statements,
marriage banns from other towns (if the bride or groom were from
somewhere else).
