[TI] FTM damaged file

I recently had a problem and I contacted Family Tree Maker thru e-mail from
their website and they walked me through several ways to fix the problem.
It was in the progam, Version 16. I finally had to delete the program and
reinstall it. Unfortunately, when I went to re-install, all I could find
was 2005 version and it wouldn't work. I ended up purchasing 2009 version
and all my files loaded OK, except now I have this new learning curve as it
is not "user friendly".

Anyway, try contacting the company online and see if they can help.

Subject: [TI] FTM damaged file

Any of you experienced Family Tree Maker users have advice for me? I was
working with my family file last night merging a duplicate individual and
got a "this file is damaged" message. I went to open the FBK backup and that
gave me the same message. The file still shows 71MB, but I can't figure out
how to fix the damage to get at the data. All the FTM tips on damaged files
don't work because I can't open it at all to compress it or reindex or
export to GEDCOM. Ack!

Unfortunately, this was a really bad time to find out that my automatic
internet Carbonite backup system did not back up any files in program
folders like FTM, even though it said it backs up the whole hard drive!!!!
(So if you have one of those, be sure to check what it is backing up!!!)

I'm so bummed. I have a CD back up from last summer, but I had added 800
names since then!!! Any advice on damaged file recovery would be
appreciated!!!!

Thanks,
Corie
