[TI] Termini - Naming Tradition

When my great grandfather entered his 2nd marriage some 17 months after his first wife passed away, the first daughter of this 2nd marriage was named after his late wife, Rosa.  Thereafter, the regular naming tradition picked up where it had left off.

Even though my great grandmother was fatherless, she named her 2nd son after the husband of her mother, Benedetto, and her 4th son was named after one of her half-brothers, Antonino.  That, I thought, was very special.  It showed a sort of closeness within the family.  Thankfully, we still carry on the same closeness within the family...no one member is a stranger.

So to restate my question,

Are there exceptions to the naming rule?  Could the first daughter be
named for someone other than the father's mother?  Could there have been
a close sister to the father that died recently, or died young and that
is were the name came from?

Melanie,

My mistake.  I meant to write down that Anna's parents were Agostino
Corso and Domenica Longo.  This is why I think it's the same family.
Also, it looks like Domenica Longo died in Palermo in 1866.  The death
index lists her name and her parents as Antonino Longo and Maria Mandea
(this looks close enough to Mantia to call it a match).  The age matches
to within 2 years also.

Tom,

You have a Maria missing who was born between Emmanuela and Francesco
and died before 1863 when her name was reused.

As for Anna, that looks like a different family since her father's name
was Antonino not Agostino and they married in 1864 not 1845.

Sincerely,

Melanie D. Holtz
