[TI] Italian Resources and POINT

Gloria, I just attended a PIP 1 meeting this evening in Woodridge. Seems the group is going to continue on, with meetings every other month, except for November, December and maybe January.

Anyway, I was volunteered to be a hostess at the next meeting in August, I think the 26th. They want me to bring samples of Italian civil documents and explain how to translate the vital informaton. And I'll probably bring my booklet that I published thru Ancestry on the Busalacchi Family of St. Louis.

If anyone is interested in attending here in the Chicago area, please do. Membership has been dwindling, and we need to get back to the basics of doing research and informing people about the kinds of documents that must be obtained to give you the next clues to getting farther back in time. If anyone in the Chicago area would like to attend...please visit the website for POINT Chapter 1 in Chicago.

Since the Oak Brook Historical Society will be able to use the entire old Butler School Building in the future, we will have a meeting/conference room on the lower level with a small kitchen facility to use. Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to host some guest speakers there for research help, handling and storing mementos, storing photographs and documents, etc. I would love for the PIP 1 group to be able to have a few presentations there, and other places in the suburbs around here to involve more people in the hobby of historical research

Gloria, the internet resources that you sent on were from Ruth Merriman/SLC. I find that she is the utmost in authority when it comes to Italian research.

The POINT national seminar will be in SLC in August of 2010. I mentioned that the TI group was to meet there in the Fall of 2010. Some wondered if the two could meet at the same time, get a better deal on room costs, and attend seminars together. It might be something to consider. I did not volunteer anything, though. It's not my place to do that.

Anyway, thanks for passing on the information, Gloria. Ruth did a super job with compiling these websites.

Sharon Reif

Subject: [TI] Italian Websites list Excellent Resource

Hi, this list was sent by a member of PIP 1 Chicago. It is filled with wonderful website addresses and short explanations of what can be found at that site.  Hope this helps someone. Also hope it is allowed on the TI list.
