alias just means he sometimes went by that surname as well - Sometimes 
he was Vincentius Caruccio, sometimes Vincentius Mirabella

The Latin baptismal documents and death records that are found in the 
allegati records show the name like this

Vincentius Mirabella alias Caruccio

In the civil records it would have appeared as Vincentius Mirabella Caruccio
