Good morning,

I have been looking for information on this Salvatore Campagna for
years and this morning I was contacted by a man named Anthony Phillips with
information on him. He was the husband of Rosaria Cristina, Rosaria was the
sister  Rosa Cristina Tedesco (my grandmother).   I am so happy!!!  I am
using my computer at work right now because I still do not have a connection
on my computer at home since the storm.  I have been trying to glance at my
emails every morning at work.  Here is the info.

Dear Larie:
While doing some genealogical research online, I came across your posting to
the "Communes of Italy" web site.   I am descended from Salvatore Campagna
and Salvatora Marfisi whom you mention.   Unfortunately, I don't have any
information on the Campagna family in the mid west. Salvatore and his wife
immigrated to upstate New York in the late 19th century (to Syracuse and
Oneida) which is where I am originally from. (He died in 1953.)   I do,
however, have some other bits of data which you might find helpful.
Anna Caruso was born in 1827.   Her actual parents are unknown since she was
abandoned at the Termini foundling home shortly after birth.   Ignazio
Caruso and Michaela Mercurio were her adoptive or foster parents. Michaela
was originally her "nudrine" (wetnurse) at the foundling home.
The parents of Ignazio Campagna were Francesco Campagna and Anna Maria
Pagano. Anna Maria was from the nearby fishing village of Trabia.
Francesco's parents were Paolino Campagna and Domenica Zangara. Paolino's
father was Vincenzo Campagna.
The Campagna surname of my New York ancestors was frequently and variously
modified in America.   The most common spellings were "Campanie" or
"Companie."   This may have happened to the mid west branch also.
Hope this information helps.   Good luck in your search.
Tony Phillips

Josie,

I have a Salvatore Compagna, son of Ignazio and mother Anna Caruso.
Salvatore married Salvatora Marfisi on 4-13-1885, daughter of Pacuale
Marfisi and mother Agostina Quattrochi.  Salvatora was the sister of my gr
aunt Rosa Marfisi-Pitti.
