[TI] Family History Center

Yes. Our usual day to the FHC is Wednesday and this past Wednesday was told
by the Librian that they will be taking the readers out eventually. There
are two readers and two new computers. They will be closing the centers
because everything will be on the internet. The computers also will go
because most of the members use the internet to do the research and do not
use the center. The timing on this sounded like 5 years from now. I think
it will be sooner. I was always afraid this was going to happen. I guess
we will be looking at $300 per year fees with Ancestry.com. It is their
lives work, their religion and theirs to do what they want with them. I was
assured that the films will always be available for non-members.

Our Family History Center in Columbia, SC had seven microfilm readers but as

of two weeks ago, we are down to three readers. Seems they have been
advised by the Church to remove any extra readers and install more computers

since "all these films are going to be on line." I registered my complaint
with the office staff about this being at least 10 years away but that is
their directive.

Also, they are starting to send Indefinite Loan (or permanent) films back to

Salt Lake City. That is also a directive from the Church, and they advised
me that an Indefinite or permanent film is only indefinite for one year.
That's news to me. Just passing the word on. Is anyone else having the
same experience?
