Pam, thanks for double checking- now it all makes sense. I have been
mostly concentrating on researching my mothers fathers family (Giuseppe
LoBello) but now thru the database and some help from Mark Johnson
(thanks Mark!) on this list I have found the missing pieces to my
mothers mothers (Giuseppa Mercurio Mandella) side of the family.
I had no idea my question would spur such a huge discussion of the
Mercurio line-this is fabulous!
Lynn-if you would double check the record while you are there I would be
appreciative.
I share with all of you the following...
Born to Michele DiMercurio and Antonina Balsamo
Matteo Agostino Mercurio born Feb 9, 1838 married Illuminata Provvidenza
Pace (daughter of Ignazio Pace and Giuseppa Navarra) born Nov 19, 1842
and married on Jan 20, 1863
They had the following children
Antonina Mercurio (related to Mark Johnson on our list) born March 15,
1863 married Giuseppe "Sam" Russo on Jan 16, 1891
Giuseppa Mercurio born August 8, 1865, (died young)
Michele Mercurio born 1869 (came to New York prior to 1902) I think he
may have ended up in Belleville New Jersey married Maria Cardosi on
April 30, 1899 in Termini
Ignazio "Charles" Mercurio born May 21, 1871 (came to New York prior to
1902) I think he may have ended up in Belleville New Jersey. Married
someone named Lucia.
Antonino Mercurio born April 14, 1876
Giuseppa Mercurio born 1876 and died September 4, 1878 (not sure but she
may have been a twin to Antonino)
Liborio "Leopole" Mercurio born ? married Giuseppa LoPresti on March 6, 1899
Giuseppa "Josephine" Mercurio (MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER) born Nov 19, 1878
married Vincenzo Mandella. Lived in Belleville, New Jersey for a while
(she used to call it "Silver Lake" but we have since learned that Silver
Lake is really a part of Belleville, New Jersey. Not sure why so many of
them headed to this particular town) and later moved to Worcester,
Massachusetts where she died in 1956.My great aunt is her only surviving
child. She is 84.
Rosa Mercurio Born July 11, 1881. Came to New York in 1902 with her
little brother Giuseppe. Don't know too much about her other than she
married twice and according to my great aunt "stayed in New York."
Giuseppe Mercurio born May 31, 1884. Came to NY with his sister Rosa
when he was 18. I think he may have headed to Belleville, New Jersey as
well.
Hope this helps someone else on the list!
