If you get version 2006, you will automatically get the upgrade to
Version 16 as it is a download. OR you can buy FTM Version 16. The
differences between 2005 and 2006 are not the drastic change that you
will experience going to 2008 and mostly just stabilize problems with 2005
FTM 2005 will not be supported anymore. Version 16 and FTM2008 will be
the only versions that the company will support.
I beta tested FTM 2008 like I have beta tested the last 8 versions of
FTM. I am very disappointed in 2008 and have stayed with Version 16 due
to that. I felt that it was released way too early and without all of
the bells and whistles that the previous versions had. It was touted as
an upgrade when it fact it was not that at all but the early stages of a
totally new program.
The major drawbacks for me was the lack of reports and books as well as
the fact that it could not handle the TI file which has over 40,000
people in it. It is very cumbersome and slow when working with large
files. People who had less than 10,000 people did not experience this
problem during the beta testing.

Laura, is it worth getting version 2006? does that have more or better
capability than 2005?

At the present time, there is NO way to create a book in FTM 2008 nor
does it have all of the report capabilities of version 2006/Version 16
