What a wonderful accomplishment and in such a short time.  It is terribly exciting. What a jewel to now have the Baptismal records from 1820 back to 1776. That's 3 or 4 generations more to trace back to our ancestors if my calculation is correct. We are so fortunate to have you helping our Termini list. Without you we would only be able to trace back to about the 1800's.
 
 I still marvel that we made our acquaintance on this list and that your parents were married in the same church as my grandparents.  Your Rose Delisi was my mother's Godmother. It was so wonderful  to actually meet you in person in Rome in 2002 and to travel with you as a most well versed guide to the most important sites in Rome and the Vatican, our most memorable audience with the Pope and the tour of the scavy. And on to Termini for a most unforgettable  visit. 
 
It was an honor for Chuck and I to see the archives with you and then to photograph the oldest book, The Baptismal Records Index 1542 to 1548. So historical - the time about the Renaissance.  Michelangelo had finished painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel only about 30 years before.  
 
Thank you so much for all your work and being such a wonderful person.   Thanks be to God for giving you to us.

Dear Termini Family,

Yesterday I came back from a two day visit to Italy and Spain.  The main
purpose of the trip was the international gathering of Lay Cistercians from
around the world at the 12th century Abbey of Huerta located about two hour
north-east of Madrid.

On May 26th our group visited the cave in which Saint Benedict lived for
three years located at Subiaco, Italy.  On the following day we went by
train to visit the Abbey of Monte Casino.
On the 28th was the Papal audience of Pope Benedict XVI.  After the
audience we waited around for about half an hour and then the Pope was
driven right past us in the pope-mobile.

That evening two friends. Mr. & Mrs. Haven Sweet & Rocky Thomas, escorted me
to Sicily.  We missed the flight because of a change of gates, but were able
to catch another flight about an hour later which brought us into Palermo
after dark.  Mario Galioto and his son, Salvatore, were there to greet us.
Some of you know Mario from your visit to Termini a few years ago.
Rocky and Haven stayed at the Gabb..... Hotel and were more than satisfied
with the accommodations.

The follow morning we visited the most beautiful Cathedral in the world
located at Cefalu.  That afternoon Mario gave us the grand tour of Termini,
including his olive grove. 

That evening at 5 PM. Mario took us to the cathedral to meet Msgr.
Francisco. There were two men of the parish with PhDs who escorted us to the
archives.  Since Mario and a friend had recently finished making photo
copies of Vol. II, I had to make a quick decision as to what to make copies
of.  Since we already have the city records that go back to 1820, my
decision was to go to work on the baptismal records starting from 1820 and
going back.  The two custodians of the archives pulled the books from the
shelves while Haven and I, with two cameras began to make copies of the
records.  They gave us only two hours to do our task.      
We were able to make copy the Baptismal records from 1820 back to 1776.  It
will be up to others to finish up the work.  The books between 1820 to about
1790 had both the records of births and deaths, but we concentrated only on
the births for now.  As for the quality of the photos, I am sure that some
of them are blurred, but the index for each volume is the most important.
The records are in alphabetical order according to the baptismal first name
and then the family name follows.  It will be our work to put the lists in
alphabetical order according to the family name.  While Haven finished up
the final volume, I took photos of the entire collection contained in a
metal case with sliding doors about 6' by 5'.  It will take some time to
process this first step and then to get it into the Termini site.

The following day we visited the cemetery and then to the ancient bridge and
up to the site of the olive grove once owned by my grandfather.  This gives
one a beautiful view of Termini.
That afternoon Mario, and his wife Pina, drove us to see the Cathedral of
Monreale, located on a mountain overlooking Palermo. By 7:30 PM we were once
again in the air returning to Rome and then on to Spain.

This was a quick visit, but I feel a very fruitful one.  Thanks be to God.
