Prudie,
The Italian bakeries that I frequent in the Chicago area are:
Angelo Caputo's....several locations throughout the area, Elmwood Park, Addison, Hanover Park, Bloomingdale, and I think there is a new one in Aurora or Elgin...somehwere out there. Caputos is great because you can get the cake by the slice if you want just a taste for dessert, and don't have to buy the whole thing. Stop and get some of the great produce while you are there, along with hundred of kinds of pasta, sauces, and my favorite thing is the meat and deli counter in the back.
Abruzzi Bakery, 371 North Wood Dale Road, Wood Dale, closed on Mondays, T-SAt 7-5 pm, Sun 8-2 pm
this is my 3rd choice because it feels too "modernized" and more flashy, less homey feel
The Italian Bakery, 82 E. Lake Street, Addison, closed on Mondays, T-Sat 8:30-5:30pm, Sunday 9-1:30 pm
this is my favorite one for the best cookies ever, a real mom and pop store, small but very friendly and you can hear them yelling in Italian back in the kitchen area.
Try them.....you'll like them. Sharon
