[TI] URGENT PRAYERS / Graves Disease (Hyperthyroidism)

Roseann,

I read your posting about your grandson who suffers
from Grave's Disease (overactive thyroid) and thought
I'd mention that many in my family (including myself)
also have been diagnosed with this including my
sister. My 100% Termitano grandfather, Edward Geraci,
was diagnosed with this disorder and had to have an
operation on his thyroid gland to treat its
over-activity when he was a young man. My sister is
taking medication to calm her thyroid gland down and
as for myself, I had a radioactive iodine treatment
about ten years ago to calm my thyroid down and now I
have no further problems. It is a genetic disorder
that affects less than 1% of the general population
but apparently it seems to run higher in certain
Termini families. If it is caught when the person is
young enough then they can lead a completely normal
life. But if it is ignored, the person can become
skinny, increasingly hyperactive and emotional and
their eyes can bulge out and they can even develop
heart problems, etc.. If anyone has a family member
who might fit this description, they should have their
thyroid tested, especially since the gene for this is
apparently present in our Termini gene pool. Does
anyone else on the list have any overactive thyroid
issues or have a family-member with this disorder?
