Well - I just tried it again and now it works -- so I don't know what was

If you want to find all Catalano's you need to input 

Catalano,*

For a person's name use 

Catalano*, Vincenzo*

I always use the asterisk after the first and last
name. 

Make sure you are not putting a space at the end of
the first name.
