Hi Connie,
Thanks so much for your reply. Looking forward to meeting you at the Reunion. Do you also know how far The Western Reserve Historical Society is from the hotel?
Gloria

Hello, everyone. I have just joined the group and hope to meet some of
you in September. I live in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland and have
been doing some research on my grandmother’s family from Termini. Here’s
some additional information in reply to various questions you asked:
1) The Western Reserve Historical Society is about 15 minutes’ walk
from Little Italy. What you want is the library area (not the museum
part), which is open Tuesday - Saturday 9:00 - 5:00. They might let you
look around briefly for free, but if you want to do research there you
have to pay $8.50 (hey, they need the money. I try to think of it as a
worthy charity.) They have computers with free links to Ancestry.com,
Heritage.com, etc. They also have all the City Directories for the
Cleveland area (I don’t know about other places, but I can check for
you), microfilms of Cleveland and NE Ohio census, plat maps......lots of
stuff. Staff can walk you through things and are generally very helpful.
For what it's worth, they claim to be one of the 10 largest genealogy
centers in the US.
2) The Kirtland FHC DOES have one microfilm for Termini on site. It’s
number 2014482, publicazzioni di matrimonio 1866, 1869-1884 and
1900-1910. Their hours are Wed-Fri. 10:00 - 2:0 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.
As Tami says, it’s about half an hour drive from the hotel, mostly on
pleasant country roads.
3) I haven’t been to Fairview yet but our chapter of POINT is holding a
meeting there in a couple of weeks, so I'll know more then. (Do you-all
know about POINT? Pursuing Our Italian Names Together -- national
organization for Italian genealogy with quarterly magazine, local chapters).
Hope this helps. If you have other Cleveland questions, I might know the
answers. Have only lived here a couple of years.
Connie Sancetta
