The Castello Caldoresco, a medieval castle, the ancient fortress of Guasto Aymone [from which the city's name, Vasto d'Aimone is derived], was rebuilt in the XIII century, and strengthened in 1439 with the addition of a tall tower; it was partially reconstructed in 1465 and completed in 1713; in the first half the XIX century it became the property of the Palmieri family which made changes and additions to it.
