Sersale is a small town (about 5000) that sits about 1200 meters above sea level. It is in the district of Catanzaro, in Calabria. It is 15 kilometers from the Ionian sea, and from many places in the town you can see the sea glistening in the distance. Driving from the coast to Sersale you notice a drastic change of climate. It is considerably cooler here. There has always been a plentiful spring going through town, of very cold pure water, another reason for this town's abundance. Sersale was founded about 500 years ago when a rich family named Sersale decided to build their villa here and some peasants decided to come to live here because of the good air, good water, and good land.
